Great to see improving our visibility as one of the priorities, this goes arm in arm with diversifying our funding sources and mobilizing our membership.
I think we also have to redefine membership. How do we classify over 600 people who follow us on Facebook? How do we communicate with the 200 organizations and people who now follow us on Twitter?
I am glad to see reinforcing of alliances and partnerships on the list. I think the word 'rebuilding' could have also been used, as alliances previously there, particularly within the church and education, are no longer guaranteed.
In forging and rebuilding alliances with Catholic education (I am speaking from the perspective of Ont.), there are a few doors and windows that are more effective than others to get into schools. Principals, heads of Religion depts and Chaplains are key and at the grassroots level, they are good points of entry. At higher levels it would be beneficial for D&P to work with Principal's associations/conferences, Chaplain's annual conference, Trustees associations and conferences, ICE, Education Commission of CCCB/OCCB,Parent Council associations /conferences.
I agree. Our visibility is enhanced when we participate in various conferences such as parent councils, trustees, etc. A table with information provides opportunities to network with other organizations and individuals and get our message out more effectively. Frank St Catharines
Some thoughts on the suggested priorities: - Reaffirming our identity (this sounds very similar to 'improve the visibility & public image of D&P) - Mobilizing the membership (I like the positive choice of the word 'mobilize'.) - Aim to diversify funding sources (could be re-written as simply 'diversify funding sources'. We want to do more than just 'aim') - Work at the heart of the Church (I love this one! maybe it needs a bit more explaining but it is very powerful wording) - Improve the visibility and the public image of D&P (this insinuates that the public image of D&P needs fixing & I'm not 100% sure that's the right emphasis. Could this be somehow combined with the first priority suggested?) - Reinforce alliances and partnerships (Can't argue with this one! We need to work on this both within the Church & with external partners)
I wonder if another priority would be 'continue to work in solidarity to support the human rights of ALL people' or words to that effect?

ReplyDeleteWould appreciate an explanation as to what is intended by "work at the heart of the Church".
